It has been my great pleasure to know Dmitri Kanovich for many years, dating back to a trip with my wife Arlene to Lithuania in the winter of 1990. He is a man of extraordinary energy and determination, a gifted professional, businessman and now philanthropist. He has made Toronto and Canada his home, and we are the luckier for it.
Dmitri is a tremendous facilitato. He was able to conceive a solution to a complex retail banking problem for one of the largest banks in the world, and then facilitate and engineer the buy-in of multiple senior stakeholders. He is creative and collaborative, builds trust rapidly and his focus on business value works resonates with the c-suite.
Thought provoking, non conventional, always at the intersection of Business + IT
Mr. Kanovich worked with us for several years and proved himself to be an enthusiastic, professional individual, always displaying high degree of motivation and initiative. He persevered in achieving targets and was consistent in executing assigned tasks.
During the period of time I was Head of Sector for Basic Element Construction and Construction Materials in Moscow, Russia, as part of my responsibilities, I needed to reorganize the Contract Administration and procurement of materials for the Construction company and its subsidiaries.
Following extensive research I discovered that the company was operating with an average overhead of 18%, such an overhead was unheard of in previous similar companies which I had operated in my previous years in the industry. In order to expose the facts
associated with the multiple companies financial positions I needed a trustworthy expert with solid experience with other Russian companies.
I recruited the help of Dmitri Kanovich as a trusted member of the company with appropriate experience in the Auditing of large Russian companies, with his help, we were able to confirm huge unnecessary overheads as well as questionable transactions taking place within the company.
Given the sensitive nature of certain transactions I could not trust other team members due to cover up activities, Dmitri assisted me in bridging the existing trust gap, allowing me to identify the unusual transactions and record such for appropriate action.
I have personally known Mr. Kanovich for five years and I have found him to be of highest integrity and professionalism in all our dealings – he works extremely hard and is a self motivated person. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Mr. Dmitri Kanovich either as an employee or as a consultant.

I worked with Dmitri when he was leading our IS User support group. I was the lead for the User group working closely with Dmitri as we replaced the POS system in our stores and merged our ERP system to have a fully integrated operation. Dmitri understood the User community and ensured that our business needs were incorporated into the new system while giving us a cost-effective systems solution.
I have known Dmitri for over 25 years. ln that time I have seen him broaden his business knowledge well beyond the lT sector as he progressed through numerous large corporations. His international experience has also given him a valuable global business perspective. He is energetic, knowledgeable, analytical, and a very focused individual.
I worked with Dimitri while at Lawson Mardon Packaging where Dimitri held the position CIO North America. As VP Planning & Marketing and an internal customer, I found Dimitri to be consistently professional in his business dealings, with a strong commitment to team success. He demonstrated a sound understanding of the business needs that underpinned the development of IT strategy and he brought solid leadership to its effective execution. In an organization that was at the time undergoing considerable change, Dimitri’s energy, enthusiasm and insight were meaningful contributors to the successful achievement of our strategic goals.
I first met Dmitri Kanovich in 1984, when I interviewed him as a brand new immigrant to Canada, looking for work. Although his Resume was impressive, too impressive I thought, it didn’t appear to meet our needs. I was so impressed, however, by his mastery of English, his enthusiasm and his personality that I went ahead on instinct and brought him into our company. It became clear very soon that he was much more than a programmer, the slot I had started him in, and that he was an entrepreneur and project leader above all else. We became good friends, but in the meanwhile his career expanded quickly and before I knew it, he was hired as a project manager by a major company. He was hired as CIO of another company within a very short period, and soon he was hiring our company to work on his projects.
The key thing about Dmitri, even more so than his depth of skill is that he is fun to be with. He constantly comes up with unexpected insights, and his depth of vision is incredibly broad. He can find problems in IT, in corporations, in public issue and generate ideas to fix them.
